Welcome to RTO/ERO District 14 Niagara

Welcome to District 14 Niagara of The Retired Teachers of Ontario/les enseignantes et enseignants retraités de l'Ontario (RTO/ERO), a bilingual and voluntary organization led and managed by retired members of the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan.

RTO/ERO has a national membership of over 80,000 retired educational workers. In our district we have over 3000 members and are one of the largest RTO/ERO districts in the province.

We have a variety of committees which work to support the membership. These committees include Health Services and Insurance, Pension Concerns, Political Advocacy, Events, Membership and Recruitment, Goodwill, and Communications.

All retired educational workers are invited to join our organization. Our committees are always looking for new volunteers. Our committees provide many opportunities for fellowship, fun, and intellectual stimulation.

There are many events and luncheons that are offered by the social committee. Many of our outings are also available to guests of members and many are subsidized by the District.

Browse our web site and the provincial website for up to date information and to read our newsletters. Do not hesitate to contact any member of Branch 14 Executive for more information.

Join us for a great Health Plan and many fun activities!

Stop Private  Clinics and Unlawful User-fees and Extra-billing of Patients

The Ontario Health Coalition, in partnership with the provincial and territorial health coalitions and the Canadian Health Coalition, has been working tirelessly to bring an end to the unlawful extra-billing of patients by private health clinics and stop the privatization of health care services. Private clinics undermine public health care and equal, universal health care for all Canadians by billing public health plans (like OHIP) and also billing patients extra user fees, sometimes amounting to thousands of dollars for medically needed care. This is unlawful under the Canada Health Act and it causes hardship and growing inequity.

We have written an Open Letter to all Provincial and Federal Health Ministers in Canada calling upon them to uphold the Canada Health Act, stop two-tier user fees and extra-billing of patients, and stop privatization. Our goal is to get 1,000 organizations to sign on to the open letter. You can sign-on online through the link here (in French and English):
